Find Peace Through Setting Boundaries

What does it mean to set boundaries? And why are boundaries important? These are two very important questions that need answering as we interact with our friends and family. Not setting clear boundaries can create chaos in any relationship. Setting boundaries is a form of self-care that shows others your clear guideline/rule/limits of how you would like to be treated. When you set boundaries that tells others that you prioritize yourself. You let others know that you matter to you. When you show others that you place value on yourself you teach them to also place value on you. Setting boundaries assists with avoiding burnout, stress, and anxiety in your life. It can also help prevent emotional burdens.

How do you go about setting boundaries? First, acknowledge that you deserve to be treated with respect. Second, determine what type of behaviors are acceptable or unacceptable to you. Once you have determined what behaviors are appropriate when others are interacting with you it is important to let them know what you will or not tolerate. For example, if you are someone who does not enjoy hugging then it is important to express this fact to the people you encounter. Lastly, communicate your boundaries to others in a respectful manner but most importantly respect the boundaries that others place. If you want others to respect you must respect others. The counterbalance of respect given and shown will create peace in your life.
